Following the cancellation of its Fugazi streetwear collaboration, Vans has found an unexpected way to release the shoes.

The partnership between Vans and Fugazi was initially met with excitement from the streetwear label's fans, but it didn't take long for people to draw comparisons between the brand name and the famous punk band Fugazi. This led to the partnership's cancellation after the band's drummer, Brendan Canty, publicly criticized the clothing brand as "horrendous" and called the collaboration "tone deaf".

The controversy peaked in July when Vans executive Steve Van Dorens issued a public statement, clarifying that the band and the clothing brand were not connected. However, this did not stop Fugazi from taking to Instagram to post a video statement on August 14, clarifying their identity and hinting at an imminent drop without naming Vans or showing the shoes.

On the same day, Fugazi also shared a video following a branded Fugazi van advertising $5 shoes, captioned with the simple instructions: "$5 Shoes. Cash only. No change". The subsequent post concluded with further details for the release taking place at the brand's NYC and LA stores.

Following the weekend drop, pictures from the in-person release have landed, showing packed lines of dozens of customers holding up their cash and change in hopes of securing a pair of the highly-anticipated release. Notably, the shoes are completely blurred out in the photos shared by Fugazi, a subtle wink at the now-defunct campaign.

## The Release

The release of the shoes was a discreet one, with Fugazi not naming Vans or showing the shoes in their posts. However, the instructions for the release were clear, with customers needing to pay cash only and no change.

## The Aftermath

The release of the shoes has been met with a massive response, with dozens of customers lining up to get their hands on a pair. The shoes themselves are completely blurred out in the photos shared by Fugazi, a subtle wink at the now-defunct campaign.

## The Future

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Fugazi x Vans collaboration. However, one thing is certain - the release of the shoes has been a success, with customers lining up to get their hands on a pair.
