Panerai Introduces Carbotech™ Luminor Marina PAM01707 with Ultra-Light Carbon Composite Case

Panerai has unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic Luminor Marina line, the PAM01707, built around a cutting-edge carbon-fiber composite known as Carbotech™. The material, a blend of carbon fibre and PEEK polymer compressed under high pressure and temperature, gives the 44mm case a stealthy matte-black finish and a texture that varies from piece to piece. According to the brand, Carbotech™ is 64 % lighter than titanium and 80 % lighter than steel, while still offering high strength and excellent corrosion resistance for marine use. ## Design and Materials The watch’s case measures 14.5 mm in thickness and is paired with a DLC-coated titanium closed case-back. Its distinctive look is complemented by a matte-black sandwich dial that houses warm beige Super-LumiNova® markers, which emit a green glow in low light. In keeping with Panerai’s naval heritage, the dial omits a date window, preserving a clean, distraction-free face. A small seconds sub-dial sits at the 9 o’clock position, a feature originally intended for Italian commandos to verify watch operation under extreme conditions. The piece ships with two strap options: a vintage-style brown calf-leather strap with beige stitching and a black rubber strap suited for sportier, aquatic activities. ## Movement and Performance At the core of the PAM01707 is Panerai’s in-house P.9010 automatic calibre. The 6 mm-thick movement comprises roughly 200 components and 31 jewels, operating at 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz). Two series-connected barrels provide a three-day power reserve. Practical functions include a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting and a quick-change feature that lets the hour hand jump forward or backward in one-hour increments without affecting the minute hand. The watch is rated to 30 bar, equivalent to about 300 meters of water resistance, with an additional 25 % safety margin built into the testing. ## Availability Panerai has made the Luminor Marina PAM01707 available through its official website and retail boutiques worldwide. The model targets collectors and enthusiasts who value the brand’s historic naval aesthetic while seeking the benefits of modern, ultra-light materials. The combination of a carbon-fiber composite case, vintage-inspired dial treatment, and robust in-house movement positions the PAM01707 as a notable addition to Panerai’s lineup of tool-watch designs.
