Awake introduces three new Sơn Mài Frosted Leaf watches, Blood Moon, Storm, and Lagoon, each limited to 100 pieces annually and priced at €2,820.
Awake has unveiled three new versions of its award-winning Sơn Mài Frosted Leaf watch dials. The Blood Moon, Storm, and Lagoon models capture fleeting natural phenomena in Vietnamese lacquer and will be available for order starting in September 2026.
The brand has built a strong following since 2024 with its time-intensive Sơn Mài dials. The Frosted Leaf technique, which debuted last year, won first prize in the Jewellery and Artistic Crafts category at the Timepiece World Awards 2025.
The 38mm Case and Dial Craftsmanship
The new models use a redesigned 38mm stainless steel case. This case is 44.75mm from lug to lug and 11.5mm thick, including the sapphire crystal. It offers 100 meters of water resistance and features a polished concave bezel with satin-finished flanks.
Creating each dial requires roughly 15 hours of handwork. Master artisans use lacquer from the Rhus verniciflua tree, harvested at daybreak in northern Vietnam. They layer the lacquer over pure silver leaf and natural pigments, then sand and polish the surface by hand. The brand states this process makes every dial a unique expression of light and color.
The Three New Dial Variations
The report describes three distinct dial themes. The Blood Moon uses deep black and intense red pigments to evoke a lunar eclipse. The Storm combines black and vivid orange layers to mimic a lightning flash. The Lagoon features translucent greens, turquoises, and cobalt blues layered over silver leaf to create effects like tropical waters.
All three versions feature hand-applied Super-LumiNova BGW9 under polished and faceted steel indexes and hands. The lume provides a soft halo effect in the dark.
Technical Specifications and Availability
The watches are powered by the automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement. It provides a 68-hour power reserve and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. A custom tungsten rotor is visible through the sapphire case back.
The straps are handmade in France from nubuck calfskin, colored to match each dial. They are fitted with a new micro-adjustable buckle. Due to production limits, each Frosted Leaf model will be limited to 100 pieces per year.
