Oris Cervo Volante Deer Leather Strap Big Crown Pointer Date

Oris has partnered with Cervo Volante to release a special edition Big Crown Pointer Date watch featuring a sustainably sourced deer leather strap. The timepiece retails for CHF 2,250. This collaboration, which began in 2022, reflects shared Swiss values and a commitment to eco-conscious craftsmanship between the two companies. Cervo Volante transforms deer hides sourced from Swiss authorities into products like watch straps. The leather is treated in one of Switzerland’s last remaining vegetable tanneries, with natural imperfections left untouched. Cervo Volante also creates leather footwear and accessories using this sustainable material from the Swiss mountains.

Watch specifications and design features

The collaboration centres on a 40mm Oris Big Crown Pointer Date with a burgundy dial. The stainless steel case has a 48mm lug-to-lug span and a 12.2mm thickness. It is water-resistant to 50 meters thanks to an oversized screw-down crown.

The watch features a signature knurled bezel and a double-domed sapphire crystal. Its dial reflects the hues of red foliage in the Waldenburg Valley near the Oris factory in Hölstein. Cathedral-shaped hands and a stylised typeface for Arabic numerals define the face. The hours, cathedral hands, and minute track markers are treated with Super-LumiNova. A calendar hand with an inverted arrow pointer is highlighted in red.

Inside, the watch is powered by the Oris 754 calibre. This 26-jewel automatic movement is based on the Sellita SW 200-1. It operates at 4Hz (28,800 vph) and delivers a 41-hour power reserve. The movement includes a pointer date module, a stop-seconds device, and a custom red rotor, a signature Oris detail. The watch comes with a dark brown Cervo Volante strap and a special travel pouch made of the same leather in a lighter colour.

Strap construction and availability

The dark brown strap is made from sustainable deer leather. It is 20mm wide and features a quick-release spring bar system. Two white stitches adorn each piece. The underside bears the Cervo Volante scarab logo on one piece and the brand name on the other. The watch is paired with a stainless steel pin buckle.

Cervo Volante obtains its materials from a managed cull. The company stated, "Switzerland culls about 15,000 wild red deer each year." This partnership follows a trio of 38mm Big Crown Pointer Date models released by the two brands in 2022.
