Buying Value: Lil Luv Dog, a US pet care brand, has debuted its 'clean beauty' products for dogs in the UK at Selfridges

Lil Luv Dog has launched its luxury grooming products for dogs at Selfridges in the UK. The brand, which positions itself within the beauty sector, introduced a liquid shampoo and a leave-in conditioning mist at the department store earlier this month.

These new items join the brand's existing dry shampoo, grooming wipes, and brush. Founders Cara Santana-Leto and Stephanie Suganami built the company to bridge a gap they saw between advanced human beauty products and basic pet care offerings.

A beauty-first approach to pet grooming

Lil Luv Dog's products are formulated and marketed through a beauty lens. The liquid shampoo is designed to cleanse without disrupting a dog's skin barrier. The leave-in mist detangles and softens coats without needing a rinse.

The brand claims its dry shampoo was the first pet grooming product to receive verification from the Environmental Working Group (EWG). All products come in two scents: cactus flower and oat.

Stephanie Suganami explained the brand's philosophy. "We approach pet grooming through the lens of beauty: thoughtful formulations, raise fragrance, beautiful design, sustainability and transparency around ingredients," she said.

Premium pricing and target audience

The products command premium prices. The liquid shampoo costs £42, while the leave-in conditioning mist is priced at £38.

The brand targets consumers who apply high standards to their own purchases and wish to extend them to their pets. Suganami described the customer as someone who thinks intentionally about what they put on their skin and bring into their home. "They may be a beauty consumer, a fashion consumer, a design consumer or simply an incredibly devoted dog parent," she noted.

Cara Santana-Leto highlighted the emotional connection driving the market. She stated that 94 per cent of British consumers consider their dog part of the family, with younger owners spending at premium, human-level standards.

Strategic retail partnerships

Lil Luv Dog has deliberately avoided traditional pet store channels. In the US, it is sold through prestige beauty and lifestyle retailers like Goop, Violet Grey, and Revolve. It also appears in experiential retail environments such as Pop Up Grocer.

The choice of Selfridges for its UK debut was strategic. Santana-Leto said the retailer was "the ideal place" to introduce the brand, as it has been "at the forefront of redefining what belongs in beauty". She framed the move as part of a larger goal. "For us, this isn't simply about bringing an American pet brand to the UK, it's about establishing pet beauty as a global beauty category," she told reporters.

The products are available in Selfridges' Oxford Street, Birmingham, Manchester Trafford, and Manchester Exchange stores, as well as online.

Future physical experiences

The company expects its physical retail presence in the US to grow, particularly with the new wash products. While there are no current plans for a permanent standalone store, the brand is interested in physical experiences.

Suganami pointed out that dogs are inherently experiential. The brand is exploring pop-ups, takeovers, and beauty suites to imagine what a Lil Luv Dog physical world could look like. These concepts would allow people to bring their dogs, discover products, and engage with community.

The founders ultimately want to help establish a new category of beauty for dogs.
