Hanhart has launched the 417 ES Steve McQueen Limited Edition No. 1, a 300-piece watch formalizing the actor's documented connection to the brand. Priced at €2,890 including German VAT, the watch is available now.

The watch features a 39mm stainless-steel case with a 13.3mm thickness and 46mm lug-to-lug measurement. Its signature fluted bidirectional bezel has a red insert. The black matte dial uses white Arabic numerals and the old Hanbrand logo. Steve McQueen’s signature sits at 6 o’clock. Super-LumiNova in a Light Old Radium tone fills the hands and numerals. The central minutes hand is bent downward to counter parallax. The case combines satin-brushed surfaces with mirror-polished lug bevels. A red HyCeram chronograph pusher sits at 4 o’clock, and the screw-down crown carries the historical 'h' logo. Water resistance is 100 metres, and both the highly domed front crystal and screw-down caseback are sapphire.

Movement and functionality

Power comes from the hand-wound AMT5100 M flyback chronograph movement, based on the Sellita SW510 M. It offers a 58-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and is regulated within 0/+8 seconds per day. The sapphire caseback allows a view of the calibre, a feature previously reserved for larger 42mm models in the 417 ES line.

Heritage and collaboration

The Hanhart 417 was introduced in the mid-1950s as a pilot’s chronograph for the German Bundeswehr. The ES, for Edelstahl (stainless steel), denoted a more durable version. Photographs from Steve McQueen’s life show the 417 ES on his wrist during motorcycle racing. In 1964, he competed under race number 278 at the International Six Days Trial in East Germany. This release marks the first officially licensed Steve McQueen edition, formalized with approval from his descendants. Chase and Madison McQueen, the actor's grandchildren, were involved. "We were involved in the project and approved using our grandfather’s signature on the dial," they said.

Presentation and accessories

The watch comes on a dark brown Shell Cordovan cuff strap from Italian tannery Comipel, with an optional bund pad. It fastens with a pin buckle bearing the Hanbrand logo. The special packaging includes a booklet, a numbered plaque, and a limitation card inspired by McQueen’s 1964 racing licence, signed by his grandsons. A bottle of red nail polish is included as a nod to the romantic story of McQueen’s girlfriend painting the watch's reset button red. The edition carries an approximate €500 premium over regular production models, which share its case size and calibre. The watch is available now for purchase as part of a limited run of 300 pieces.
