Ressence Launches Type 10 'Dark Night' Oil-Filled Watch
Ressence unveils the Type 10 'Dark Night', a 100-piece limited edition featuring its proprietary RW-04 movement and an oil-filled dial.

Ressence has launched the Type 10 'Dark Night', a limited edition oil-filled watch powered by its new proprietary RW-04 movement. The release, limited to 100 pieces and priced at CHF 45,000 excluding taxes, will be available from selected retailers worldwide starting in November 2026.
The watch's organic shape was inspired by founder Benoît Mintiens’s curiosity about natural forms. Its development was a lengthy process. Benoît Mintiens said, "the Type 10’s design began to take shape about four years ago." The result is a convex, oil-filled dial that tells time with three inclined satellites. The main dial displays minutes, the largest sub-dial shows hours, and smaller sub-dials show running seconds and a second time zone. No numerals are present, not even on the 24-hour sub-dial. An indicator cutout inside the hour sub-dial shows the oil temperature, with a normal operating range between approximately 15 and 35 degrees Celsius.
The oil eliminates visual distortion and makes creases almost invisible, creating a seamless view. This requires a complex two-chamber construction. Mintiens explained, "the watch has two chambers. Chamber one is the oil-filled dial, and chamber two, which contains the movement, is filled with air." A titanium membrane separates them, and nine micromagnets transmit energy from the movement to the dial module. A bellows system acts as an expansion membrane to compensate for oil volume changes caused by temperature.
The in-house RW-04 automatic movement, developed over four years, comprises 252 components. It features two barrels for a 60-hour power reserve and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour. With the ROCS 10 module, the movement incorporates eight ball bearings, 47 jewels, and 49 gears. Since the watch has no conventional crown, winding and setting are done via a ring on the case back, preserving the case's symmetry.

Materials and wearability
The Ressence Type 10 features a polished, deep blue DLC-coated Grade 5 titanium case measuring 41.5mm. Its bezel inlay is a complex assembly of 24 separate parts, alternating between sandblasted luminous markers and brushed portions. A double-domed sapphire crystal protects the front, while a domed case back incorporates a donut-shaped sapphire crystal. Scalloped lugs integrate with a fitted, colour-matched deep-blue rubber strap. The watch offers a water resistance of 50 meters.
Edition and availability
The Type 10 'Dark Night' is a strict limited edition of 100 pieces. It carries a price of CHF 45,000, excluding taxes. This positions it just below the oil-filled Type 3 Marc Newson collaboration, offering an upgrade to a proprietary movement and a longer power reserve at no additional cost. The watch joins the Type 3, Type 5, and Type 7 in Ressence’s oil-filled collection. Ressence presented its first proprietary movement, the RW-01, inside the Type 11 at Watches and Wonders in Geneva earlier this year, signalling a new phase of in-house calibre development for the brand. Availability for the Type 10 begins in November 2026 from selected Ressence retailers worldwide.
