Hublot and Jeff Koons Launch Two Limited Art Watches

Hublot has partnered with contemporary artist Jeff Koons to release two limited edition watches. The collaboration yields the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog and the MP-14 Origin models, merging artistic vision with high watchmaking.

According to Hublot, both the brand and Koons share a philosophy of transforming material into meaning. The partnership aims to bring the artist's iconic sculptural language into horology.

The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog

The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons reinterprets a famous sculpture from the artist's Celebration series. Its 42mm case, bezel, dial, and crystal feature convex, 'puffed' forms milled to mimic an inflated balloon.

Decorative elements include a crown styled like a balloon valve and a flexible rubber 'dog tail' at 10:30. The seconds hand has a miniature Balloon Dog counterweight. It is powered by the automatic HUB1710 calibre with a custom tungsten rotor.

The edition is limited to 200 pieces per colorway. The three variants are:

Hublot states the retail price is $25,100 USD. Each watch comes in specialized packaging with a color-matched chromed balloon dog sculpture.

The MP-14 Origin Tourbillon

The MP-14 Origin by Jeff Koons Sapphire Titanium is presented as an experimental piece. Its design is inspired by the cosmic birth of time, according to the brand.

The watch features a 44mm octagonal case made entirely of transparent sapphire. Hublot reports this case requires over 534 hours of precision machining.

Inside, concentric rings of 18K white gold orbit a central core. These rings are set with 202 baguette-cut diamonds and blue sapphires. A translucent blue-varnished sapphire dome protects the dial, a feature Hublot links to Koons's Gazing Ball artworks.

The timepiece debuts Hublot's first automatic central tourbillon. This complex system is driven by the 594-component HUB9014 movement with a peripheral rotor. Hours and minutes are displayed via floating red and grey indicator cubes.

Hublot says the MP-14 Origin name pays homage to the location of Koons's first solo exhibition in 1980. It is limited to 30 pieces worldwide with a price of $488,000 USD. The watch is presented in an immersive infinity mirror installation.

Bridging Craft and Art

The collaboration positions these watches as bridges between watchmaking and contemporary art installation. Hublot emphasizes the specialized presentation packaging for both models. The brand states the Classic Fusion arrives with a sculpture, while the MP-14 comes with a mirror and LED light setup.
